Digital Frukost - Visual Data Science and the integration of interactive and automatic data analysis

The first breakfast seminar this year will be about visual data science. We are very happy to announce that Prof. Helwig Hauser, PI of the visualization group at the Department of Informatics (UiB), will talk to us about this exciting topic.

Abstract 

Interactive data visualization is embracing the new paradigm of data science, where hypotheses are formulated on the basis of existing data, for example from medical cohort studies or ensemble simulation. New methods for the interactive visual exploration and analysis of rich datasets are supporting data scientists, including solutions that are based on the integration of automated analysis techniques and interactive visual methods. In this talk, we discuss new research on visual data science and look at interactive visual hypothesis generation as a particular example. We also look at interactive visual steering, where interactive visual solutions are used to enter an iterative process of modeling. Furthermore, we also address the current process of building a new Center for Data Science, CEDAS, at UiB.

"Digital Frukost" is an open breakfast seminar series focusing on research activities at the interface between the biological sciences and that of mathematics, computer science, physics or engineering. Examples of such research activities could be mathematical or computational modeling of biological systems, application of engineering/control systems theory on biological systems or inspired by biological systems, application of mathematics/statistics/machine learning to analyze big data in health or marine sector; from sensor systems, imaging or omics technologies etc.
