Networking project

The governance and networking project is run by the three hub-partners, and is in charge of the day-to-day operations. The centre leader and centre coordinator manages the centre in close collaboration with the other group leaders and group coordinators in the different work groups. Together, the work groups constitute the networking project. The work groups corresponds to six different focus areas: governance; responsible research and innovation (RRI); innovation and industry involvement; training and recruitment (including the DLN Research School); competence and infrastructure network; and communication.

Governance

The main task for the work group for governance is to administer the hub-node network, and to facilitate the integration of the activities in the networking project and the various research projects.

RRI

All activities at the DLN are underpinned by the principle and practice of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). The work group for RRI works to build and maintain a national RRI infrastructure for biotechnological research and contributes to advance the integration of RRI in the research projects.

Innovation and industry involvement

The work group for innovation assists in the transferring of research activities and results into innovation and value creation. The research projects receive support in developing and maintaining a culture for innovation in their research. Pairing life sciences and digital tools has great potential, and the work group strives to involve stakeholders from digital biotechnology in Norway (SMEs, research institutions, Technology Transfer offices, and industry start-ups and clusters) in order to facilitate more cooperation and innovation in this emerging field.

Training and recruitment

Recruiting talented young researchers to transdisciplinary biotechnology research, creating an environment for excellent PhD education, and contributing to career development at a post graduate level are three important aims for DLN. In order to reach all three goals, there will be a strong emphasis on recruitment and education of and career development for female researchers. One principal task for the work group for education and career is to run the Digital Life Norway Research School.

Competence and infrastructure network

This work group contributes to the effort of keeping DLN at the forefront of data management and analysis, both for the experimental and the computational aspects of the research. It is a stated ambition that the expertise and infrastructures that are being developed in the research projects is utilised in the best possible manner. In order for this to happen, we will establish dedicated competence and infrastructure networks, consisting of national and international research milieus. We will also organise meetings and workshops so that fruitful exchange of knowledge and experience can happen between the research projects and relevant environments of competence. The work group will assist the research projects in establishing and using knowledge databases, so that the generated data is made available and thus is being exploited in the best possible manner.

Communication

The work group for communication facilitates outreach and provides access to the activities of the centre. DLN’s activities unfolds in interaction with society. Furthermore, the work group contributes to establish and maintain the centre’s brand and identity, and its national and international profile. The work group’s activities are thus closely integrated with the rest of the networking project and the research projects.
